Hawaii State Flower History:
During the 1920s, the Hibiscus, with all its colors and varieties, was adopted as the official territorial flower of Hawaii . After receiving statehood in 1959, the Legislature adopted many of Hawaii 's symbols as part of the new Hawaii Revised Statutes. It wasn't until 1988, that the Yellow Hibiscus was adopted to represent the state flower of Hawaii . The Yellow Hibiscus is among the few species of Hibiscus which are native to the Hawaiian Islands . If you happen to come across old photographs or postcards with Red Hibiscus representing Hawaiian symbols, this was not incorrect, and color of the Hibiscus could represent the state flower of Hawaii .
