Arizona State Flower History:
In the year of 1901, the Saguaro Cactus Blossom began its journey which would end in its adoption as the state flower of Arizona . In 1901, the blossom was adopted as Arizona 's territorial flower. It was not until 1931 that the Saguaro Cactus Blossom was confirmed as the state flower of Arizona .
Normally blooming in May and June, the Cactus Blossom is a wonderful sight. Its waxy feel and fragrant aroma make it one of the most unique state flowers. Other interesting facts about the Saguaro blossoms include the fact that the blossoms have a very short life span. Opening at night and closing permanently during the day, the flowers become red-fleshed fruits that are enjoyed by the bird population once they are pollinated.
